Ignoring History
The Salem witch trials were a series of hearings and
prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts between
February 1692 and May 1693. The trials resulted in the executions of twenty
people, fourteen of them women, and all but one by hanging. Five others
(including two infant children) died in prison.

We think of the Salem witch trials of 1692-1693 as an anomaly
but the European trials have been with us since the 15th century.
And it’s all about accusations. Just accusations, truth is irrelevant.
We don’t call it by that name anymore. The recent word is McCarthyism. “...the practice of making
accusations of subversion or treason without proper regard for evidence. It
also means the practice of making unfair allegations or using unfair
investigative techniques, especially in order to restrict dissent or political
criticism."
How long before we call it Trumpism?
